What a brilliant machine
I was so excited to try this coffee machine, I have wanted one for a while. I found it very simple to set up, the instructions were easy to follow for setting up and working out how to make the coffee. The first two attempts I didn’t quite get the milk temperature correct, but the 3rd time I mastered it and now can make it so easily. It tastes just like it would had you went to a coffee place. I’m saving so much money as I would buy a takeaway everyday! It is at the higher end of the price range but when you work out how much I would spend of coffee a year, the savings are so much higher! I would highly recommend this!

Well designed machine, makes excellent coffee
I recently installed this device and started making coffee with it with all default settings. Even so the result was already very well. My previous machine was a Lavazza modo mio cup machine and yesss, even compared to this relatively good cup machine, the taste of the coffee coming from this machine is so much better.
Also I am pleased with the design. There are many well thought through details, operation is relatively simple (of course you have to be a bit more barista compared to a cup machine and there is more cleaning work involved) and it heats up quickly. The manual is well written, yet you do need to invest time to learn the device well.

Amazing for any coffee lover
Proper barista style coffee. It is a must have for coffee lovers, even those fussy ones, like myself. This product is smart, well built and everything is customisable. Grind your own beans as fine or as course as you like to control the strength of your coffee. Control the temperature settings to get it as hot or as warm as you like. One cup or two. The milk frother really packs a punch on this machine, making perfect cappuccinos. It has an led display so you can see which settings you are on. It's easy to clean, the instructions booklet is clear and easy to read and also tells you the ways to make the different coffee styles, ie, cappuccino, latte, mocha etc.

Can make decent coffee, with some effort
Decent little machine but does require some tweaking to get the most out of it. For example, the grinder. Mine consistently grinds 15g when the shot counter gets to 2.0, I have to take it up to 2.7 to get the suggested 19.5g, at which point coffee spills all over the place, so get yourself a dosing cup. And some scales.
Secondly, 60ml from 19.5g of coffee is a bit too much, a ratio of 2-2.5 produces a much nicer espresso. Luckily tweaking the shot volume is super simple and I've not got it producing espresso that's comparable with the sage barista express this was purchased to replace (as it gave up the ghost).
TL;DR - Capable machine once you get it dialed in.

Why does this machine feel like a secret.
I'm assuming that this is the replacement for the original Barista Max as it has all of the great coffee making potential with a host of great extras such as grind and shot timers built in (no need to faff about with starting timers on scales or phones). Does great steaming for milk recipes and comes with everything you need to be able to create a café style coffee within a matter of minutes (including a few pulls to dial everything in). I came across this machine entirely by accident at my local Currys when shopping for a Christmas present for myself. I searched for reviews and found a total of only two youtube reviews and a 14 minute video from sage about how to use the machine. I would advise anyone looking for a great, sub 500 pound machine to grab this up as fast as they can. It is going for 399 at Currys at the time of writing this. Having used both the Max and the Max plus I'm genuinely puzzled as to why no-one is raving about this machine. You may wish to hurry and get one before Breville wake up to what they've created here!

An OK machine but makes a HUGE mess
The only reason I hate this machine is the amount of coffee falls from it while grinding, its like 19.5g to make and I have 17g maximum on my cup cause everything is falling from the sides,
worst grinder and human engineering in a machine I've ever experienced.
Other than that Its an average machine, a little slow one but its ok.

Great machine and easy to use once you figured out the right settings
I was super happy to receive this coffee machine as I'm absolutely a beginner in specialty coffee making, we used to go woth the good old single espresso. But with this one I'm able to experiment and the results are (usually) lovely. I don't know much about the specs but it's very easy to make creamy coffee and super frothy milk with it and that's what really matters to me, I don't want to be a barista to make a decent cup. And the freshly ground coffee is so much better than the store bought versions. It will be a lovely addition to our new kitchen, I can't wait moving in and find a good spot for it on the countertop.😍 I'm pretty sure this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship😊
